Florida Kindergarten Council was founded on March 30, 1968, at a Charter Conference held in Orlando, Florida.

The significant need for an organization dedicated to maintaining high standards in preprimary schools and kindergartens throughout the state of Florida was initially recognized by Marian Krutulis and Natalie Jordan.

Mrs. Krutulis, Director of Gulliver Academy, Coral Gables, was a participant on the Steering Committee chaired by Mrs. Jordan, Director of Bayshore School, Miami, and comprised of a group of interested preprimary school educators.

At this meeting, the charter was drawn up and signed, and the Florida Kindergarten Council came into being. Officers and Committees were elected. By-laws and Standards were prepared and presented for approval at the first meeting of the Florida Kindergarten Council which was held in Winter Park in January, 1969.

In addition to maintaining high standards in Early Childhood Education, the Florida Kindergarten Council reviews educational issues and informs members regarding pertinent legislation, meets in regional groups for informative workshops, share ideas for curriculum improvements, and offers assistance to inquiring schools who wish to become better schools.

At present, FKC has over 170 schools in our membership and are striving to increase that number throughout the State of Florida, thus strengthening our organization.

The Florida Kindergarten Council is a member of the Florida Association of Academic Nonpublic Schools (FAANS) and as such has been recognized as an official evaluating and accrediting organization for the nonpublic early childhood schools in the State of Florida.
